Notice of Potential Data Security Incident

Dear Supporters,

We hope you and your family are doing well and staying safe as we all continue to face challenging and uncertain times. In the interest of transparency, we would like to notify you that the Sacramento Children’s Home was recently notified of a data security incident that may have potentially involved some of your personal information, including name, mailing address, email address, and phone number. Recently, our third-party vendor, Blackbaud, informed us that it suffered a cyber incident in May 2020 that resulted in potential unauthorized access to certain information maintained by Blackbaud.

Blackbaud, a global leader in non-profit engagement, fundraising, and financial management services, is a cloud-based software provider that offers customer relations management and financial service tools to many non-profit organizations and educational institutions. Unfortunately, Blackbaud’s cybersecurity incident impacted a significant number of its customers, including the potential of some of the Sacramento Children’s Home’s data. Blackbaud confirmed that this incident did not however involve any information such as Social Security numbers, credit card information, or bank account information. It is important to note that the Sacramento Children’s Home does not maintain any of that data in our records.

At the Sacramento Children’s Home, we do however store contact information, including mailing address, name, phone number, and emails, as well as philanthropic giving history. It is also important to note, that while this breach may have affected the Sacramento Children’s Home’s stored data, we have not received confirmation that anyone’s data was exposed for nefarious purposes. We did however want to inform you of this incident in the interest of transparency and out of an abundance of caution.

After learning about this incident, SCH began an internal review to determine what, if any, sensitive data was potentially affected. Blackbaud advised all impacted customers that it is working with forensic experts and law enforcement to investigate this incident. If and when more information about this incident becomes available, we will be sure to share that with our community of supporters.

Please know that at the Sacramento Children’s Home, we value your generous support and we take the security of your personal information very seriously. We sincerely regret any concern this incident may cause you and will communicate, as necessary, any additional information as it becomes available.

In the meantime, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact our Director of Philanthropy, Todd Koolakian, at todd.koolakian@kidshome.org or (916) 290-8201.

Sincerely,

David Baker, Ed.D.
