SCH Annual Fill-A-Backpack Drive begins on June 1st!
At the Sacramento Children’s Home, we know that a bright future begins with a good education. Unfortunately, many of the children and families we serve lack the resources and proper school supplies to start the school year off right. For children in need, something as simple as a new backpack can boost their confidence and self-esteem, and other proper school supplies can set them on a path to success.
We are currently accepting filled backpacks and much-needed school supplies to support the needs of children and families across our 10 programs.
To make things easy to participate in our Fill-a-Backpack Drive, we have created a flyer to provide detailed shopping lists by age group. Click here to see the flyer.
We’ve also created online shopping registries for your convenience. Click on one of the links below to access the registry of your choice; or feel free to select items of your own choosing.
Frequently Asked Questions
When do you need to have my donations?
While we would appreciate donations by July 20 to prepare for our Family Resource Centers’ back-to-school events, we will gladly accept donations through the end of August.
I like to shop in person. Where can I deliver my donations? We can accommodate drop-offs at the SCH Main Campus at 2750 Sutterville Road in Sacramento, Monday through Friday, from 9 am to 4 pm. Pull into the circular driveway out front, ring the doorbell, and the receptionist will open the door.
I like to shop online. Where can I ship my donations?
We have built suggested shopping registries on Amazon, Target, and Walmart. Visit the online retailer of your choice, fill your cart with what you’re comfortable with, and you can have it shipped directly to us at Sacramento Children’s Home; Attn: Backpack Drive; 2750 Sutterville Road; Sacramento, CA 95820.
Do I need to purchase every item on the list?
While we would appreciate if each donation contained a backpack full of all items a student needs, we also welcome all school supply donations – whatever you are able to donate.
Are there any restrictions?
Some schools restrict solid blue and solid red backpacks as these are deemed to be gang colors. If this is the only option available to you, we will accept them. We collect for both boys and girls, from preschool age to high school.
Our group would like to coordinate a large donation drive. Is there anything special we need to know? Please contact Ann Checkley at (916) 290-8203 or firstname.lastname@example.org to coordinate.
Will I receive a donation receipt?
Please complete this online form to receive an acknowledgement letter for your donation that can be used for tax purposes.
