Fill-A-Backpack Drive 2021: Info and FAQs

Our annual Fill-A-Backpack Drive begins on June 14!

At the Sacramento Children’s Home, we know that a bright future begins with a good education. Unfortunately, many of the children we serve lack resources for proper supplies, whether in person or distance learning from home. For children in need, something as simple as a new backpack can boost their confidence and self-esteem, and supplies for home learning can set them on a path to success.

We are currently accepting filled backpacks and much-needed school supplies.

We’ve created a flyer to provide detailed shopping lists by age group.
Click here to see the flyer.

We’ve also created online shopping registries for your convenience. Click on one of the links below to access the registry of your choice; or feel free to select items of your own choosing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Has the Fill-A-Backpack Drive changed due to COVID-19?
We have built suggested shopping registries on Amazon, Target, and Walmart. Visit the online retailer of your choice, fill your cart with what you’re comfortable with, and have it shipped directly to us!

Where do I ship my donation?
Sacramento Children’s Home
Attn: Backpack Drive
2750 Sutterville Road
Sacramento, CA 95820

Do I need to purchase every item on the list?
While we’d appreciate if each donation contained a backpack full of all items a student needs, we also welcome smaller donations – whatever you are comfortable donating.

Are there any restrictions?
Some schools restrict solid blue and solid red backpacks as these are deemed gang colors. If this is the only option available to you, we will accept them. We collect for both boys and girls, from preschool age to high school.

When do you need them by?
While we would appreciate donations by July 23 to prepare for our Family Resource Centers’ back-to-school events, we will gladly accept donations through the end of August.

I love to shop in person. Can I still do that?
We can accommodate no-contact drop-offs at the SCH Main Campus at 2750 Sutterville Road in Sacramento, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Pull into the circular driveway out front, ring the doorbell, and the receptionist will open the door. Please bring the delivery inside and place on the floor against the wall in the lobby.

Our group would like to coordinate a large drive. Is there anything special we need to know? Please contact Ann Checkley at (916) 290-8203 or ann.checkley@kidshome.org to coordinate.

Will I receive a donation receipt?
Please complete this online form to receive an acknowledgement letter for your donation that can be used for tax purposes.
