Meet Alex, Former Residential Client

We recently spoke with a young man named Alex, who just settled in Los Angeles to pursue a culinary career. Not long ago, Alex was living on the SCH campus in our Residential Program, uncertain about what his future might hold.
Growing up apart from his biological parents, Alex had to navigate many challenges—but he consistently demonstrated resilience, strength, and determination. As a 17-year-old, he was nervous about aging out of foster care and leaving the SCH Residential Program.
Before his birthday, Alex took control of his future and asked SCH staff for help enrolling in the California Conservation Corps’ culinary program. Thanks to his perseverance and the support of SCH’s Independent Living Program, Alex is now on the path to becoming a skilled culinary professional.
Alex’s journey is a testament to the power of community support.
