27th Annual Crab Feed & Auction Raises Crucial Funds and Brings Joy to the Community

Approximately 420 guests gathered at the Greek Orthodox Church in East Sacramento on Saturday, February 22nd, to support the vital work of the Sacramento Children’s Home and our family of programs. It was a tremendous success, raising over $275,000 –- the highest amount raised in our 27 years of hosting this event!

The atmosphere was lively, with energetic supporters enjoying an abundance of delicious crab catered by the fantastic team at Pacific Seafood. Our dedicated auctioneer, Mark Alman, energized the room and engaged the bidders, creating excitement for our live auction items. Two of the many exciting live auction packages that our winning bidders will enjoy include “The Ultimate Farm to Fork Date Night for a Year,” which features 12 restaurant gift cards to some of the best restaurants in Sacramento, and “Luxury at 6,000 Feet,” a three-night stay at a beautiful, high-end vacation home on Lake Tahoe.

One of the evening’s highlights was the Fund-A-Need segment, where over $72,000 was raised to support much-needed improvements at the South Crisis Nursery, including enhancements to the playground area. The cake auction was a smashing hit, bringing in an impressive $37,000 from our generous bidders. In return, each cake winner indulged in a scrumptious cake for their table to enjoy. The five participating bakeries were Freeport Bakery, The Rockabilly Baker, Katydid Sweets Co., Bundle of Cupcakes, and Ettore’s Bakery, and each created showstoppers showcasing their creativity and passion.

The evening was filled with emotion as the SCH Director of Philanthropy took a moment to express gratitude to Chris Weske for her dedicated service to the Sacramento Children’s Home. This heartfelt acknowledgment came as a touching surprise to her. Chris has been involved with SCH for over 30 years, during which she has served as both Vice President and President of the Friends of the Crisis Nursery and the SCH Guild and has been a regular member of the Sacramento Children’s Home Board of Directors. She has organized over 30 SCH fundraisers, raising over $1,000,000. In addition, guests were moved by the heartfelt story from a Crisis Nursery client, a mother who bravely shared her experience of overcoming struggles with the help of the Crisis Nursery.

It was an unforgettable night, made possible by the hard work of the SCH Philanthropy Team and our Crab Feed Planning Committee, as well as the generosity of our supporters, attendees, sponsors, auction donors, cake donors, and volunteers. It’s because of our outstanding community of supporters that this year’s event will have a direct and positive impact on continuing to fulfill our mission of opening doors to the future by maximizing the potential of the children and families we serve.
