On a beautiful, sunny, and breezy day, the South Sacramento Family Resource Center – Meadowview came alive with energy as we celebrated the launch of our new community garden.
We recently partnered with Color the Block—an organization dedicated to advancing creative expression, wellness, advocacy, and leadership among underserved youth and families—for this exciting kickoff. Volunteers showed up ready to work, building raised garden beds and helping transform the space into a welcoming environment for children and families. Tables were also set up with helpful information and resources on how to plant and care for a garden, creating opportunities for families to learn new skills and gain hands-on knowledge. The day was filled with teamwork, connection, and a shared sense of purpose.
This project reflects our mission to build strong families by creating opportunities for learning, access, and community engagement. The garden will provide more than fresh fruits and vegetables—it will offer a space for families to come together, spend time outdoors, and build healthy habits that support long-term well-being. By increasing access to gardening knowledge and resources, we are helping empower families while fostering a sense of pride and connection within the neighborhood.
We are deeply grateful for this partnership, which helped bring this vision to life and laid the foundation for a vibrant, shared space that will continue to grow and flourish. We look forward to welcoming families for upcoming planting days, workshops, and garden activities. Together, we are not just growing a garden—we are growing stronger, healthier, and more connected families.
