Volunteer Support

Volunteering

Volunteers are the heart and soul of the Sacramento Children's Home. In 1867, a group of citizens formed the Sacramento Children's Home as a volunteer effort. Throughout its history, volunteers have provided services from mentoring children to maintaining property to fundraising. From direct work with the children to indirect work with the auxiliaries and Board, volunteers are the reason for our success.

Every year, hundreds of dedicated men and women volunteer their time, knowledge and talents to the Sacramento Children's Home and the families it serves. Most do so with little public recognition, but with the great satisfaction of knowing that they made a difference in the life of a child. For example, our SCH Crisis Nurseries couldn't operate the way they do without the volunteers.

Please read more about volunteer opportunities here. Our volunteer coordinator Judy Schefer, (916.452.3981) will be able to answer all your volunteer questions.

Auxiliaries

Auxiliaries raise funds, provide volunteer support and serve as champions for the children in our community. The Sacramento Children's Home is fortunate to have four committed groups of individuals who help in so many ways! The Friends of the Crisis Nurseries supports the SCH Crisis Nurseries. Los Amigos is a social group that raises funds through many activities. Los Ninos Service League operates the renowned Casa Garden Restaurant and Meeting Center. The Sacramento Children's Home Guild hosts the annual Down by the Sea Crab Feed and other fundraising events.
