CORAL - (Communities Organizing Resources to Advance Learning)
The CORAL program mission is to improve academic achievement in grades K-6 by mobilizing families, aligning community wide networks, and building out of school resources to support learning.  CORAL’s goal for children, referred to the program by their classroom teachers, is to improve their academic/literacy performance by one grade level because children who are reading at grade level by the third or fourth grade are more likely to stay in school.  The combined enrollment for all of CORAL is 600 students, of which the SCH program serves up to 300.  The community need of increasing the literacy levels in the North Sacramento School District through use of the CORAL program is beginning to be met.  This is shown by CORAL’s fourth and fifth grade students being assessed for reading level improvement and having 57 out of 70 students increase their reading level by one to two increments.  Much of This success is due to the program being very popular with its students and parents.
