The nursery also provides preschool educational services with an emphasis on reading and school readiness. The Sacramento Crisis Nursery annually serves an estimated 450 clients through self-referrals, referrals from hospitals, family resource centers, and multiple community agencies. Not only is the Nursery a shelter for infants and young children but it also provides case management for families, counseling, referrals, health/mental health assessments for children when needed, transportation to school, medical and social services appointments, and emergency foster placement for infants. Ideally the Nursery’s goals are to help families to successfully achieve residential stability.
