Friends Of Crisis Nurseries
The Friends of the Sacramento Crisis Nurseries is dedicated to helping reduce child abuse and neglect by ensuring the financial security and ongoing community support for the Sacramento Children's Home Crisis Nursery Program.
Established in 1998, and originally founded by a group of concerned individuals committed to the success of the Crisis Nursery Program, the Friends have been supporting the program since its inception.
The Friends of the Crisis Nurseries provide endless volunteer hours to ensure that the Crisis Nursery Program continues to offer a safe place for every parent and child who needs support and that the Crisis Nursery Program has the resources to address the needs of children ages 0-5 whose parents/caregivers are experiencing a crisis. With that singular goal in mind, the Friends of the Crisis Nurseries work to raise funds and bring new volunteers to the Crisis Nursery Program.
The Friends of the Crisis Nurseries established a sustaining fund for the Crisis Nursery Program, with the ultimate goal of providing long term funding for the program well into the future. This fund began with a significant gift from the Thomas P. Raley Foundation, and continues to build annually through the fundraising efforts of the Friends.
The Friends have two primary functions:
Raising money to sustain the Sacramento Crisis Nursery Program-
- Membership in the Friends of the Crisis Nurseries
- Fundraising Appeals
- Special Events such as April's 4theBabies Campaign and the annual Teddy Bear Tea in December
- Obelisk Tile Project ( ongoing at the North Nursery )
Raising public awareness for the Crisis Nursery Program-
- Publication of the quarterly News from the Nurseries
- Community outreach
- Coordination of the Speaker's Bureau
Gifting Grandmas - Recognizing that grandmothers have so many 'gifts' to give - time, love, understanding, caring - a very special category of membership is offered through the Friends of the Crisis Nursery auxiliary. Twice a year members of Gifting Grandmas gather together for a fun event to support the Crisis Nursery Program, which often features a luncheon, fashion show and auction. A great way to give back if your children are no longer living at home and you want to continue to impact the lives of children in our community!
Because Gifting Grandmas are also committed to the financial security of the Crisis Nursery Program, a base pledge has been established for members of $200 per year - with a payment schedule to be determined by each member.
For Gifting Grandmas membership information, please contact Diane Cooper, at 916-961-9019 or dcoop9019@att.net.
We hope you will consider joining with other 'friends' in our community who recognize the value of the Sacramento Crisis Nursery Program.
Membership in the Friends of the Crisis Nurseries starts at $35 annually.
