CORAL — SCH After School Literacy Program
The James Irvine Foundation launched the CORAL initiative in 1999. The Sacramento Children's Home operates CORAL in low socioeconomic, under served communities at six of the lowest performing schools in Sacramento. The premise underlying the CORAL Program is that there is a direct link between one's ability to read and success in life. The goal is to improve the reading skills of children reading two-years below grade level and to encourage the joy of reading amongst participants.
The three major core program activities are YET (Youth Education Tomorrow) literacy, "100 Book Challenge" and enrichment programs. All three program activities work in concert with each other to support the learning model, thus producing the greatest results.
